Bergamot is the name of a tree, which has the scientific name Citrus bergamia. Interestingly enough, this tree is the result of a cross between a lemon tree and an orange tree. Bergamot is extremely good for uplifting the spirits, allaying anxiety and treating depression. It is a good oil to use when someone has got into a cycle of tension and depression surrounding a a persistent condition. It is an excellent oil to use to calm the nervous system.
